Obesity in the US

Thanks to EVERYONE that came out to Booksin Elementary to help in the garden!!!  We got a ton done and a great workout too!!!

Below is a video posted by CrossFit Unlimited and I think it is something that we should ALL watch and then pass it along to everyone we know!  Farmers Markets are in their full glory right now and the BBQ’s are dying to be used!  Let’s all try to make an effort for 1 week to not eat out - just cook super healthy meals at home!!!  Invite some friends over to enjoy with you!

Tips:
Shop once per week and go right home and prep everything you bought!
Only buy healthy things you love and will want to eat!
Cook/BBQ a bunch of meat on Sunday or Monday!  Cold steak/chicken is great on salads - or anytime, hard boiled eggs are always a great snack, and cut up fruit and veggies will definitely be eaten over uncleaned/unprepped fruit and veggies!

Need it to be easier?
Try:

Safeway.com!  Shop online and have only the good stuff delivered to your front door!  http://www.safeway.com
Farmers Market right at your doorstep!  http://www.farmfreshtoyou.com

Now - watch ALL of the below video!  It is so worth it!

thanks for sharing Audra, this is really a powerful message.  Our kids have a shorter life expectancy than we do…what??  that is some serious stuff.

Found this link on Marksdailyapple.  Amazing transformation.  The great thing about it is that this person and others like him are regular people like us.  These aren’t superhumans or outliers doing outrageous things.  Just normal folk making a choice to make a change.

Thanks for that post Nick!  It is amazing - eat right, walk, and lift some weights!  Sounds fun to me!!!

Can you believe that our children are actually going to have a shorter lifespan than us!?!?!  That is CRAZY!!  And $10B per year on healthcare relating to obesity….Man, can you imagine all of the kids/families we could feed “healthfully” with that amount of money!

I see the lunches that show up at the school - crazy!  And we live in an “educated” area where people should know better!

Found this on Jaime Oliver’s site. Statistics on obesity and diabetes:

http://www.jamieoliver.com/jfr-beta/pdf/Jamie-Oliver_Food-Rev-Facts.pdf

Here is the statistics on childhood obesity:

Childhood Obesity

-Nearly one in three (32%, 23 million) American children are obese or overweight.
-In total, 17% of children of all ages are obese, but this rises to over 25% in all but three states for ages 10-17 (7).
-Most obese children (over 80%) will also be obese as adults.
-Today’s generation of children are predicted to be the first which will die at a younger age than their parents due to obesity-related bad health.
